Exciting changes at Summit County Library!
Coming Soon... Self Check-Out Machines
What you need to know:
You may have noticed several changes going on the last few weeks at your local Summit County Library branch. Get excited! We’re introducing some great new procedures that will help streamline your experience and make your visits even more enjoyable.
Here’s what you need to know:
You may now pick up your own holds from the hold shelf! Each library has moved the location of their shelf to be accessible to patrons. Our new hold slips list the first 3 digits of your last name on top, the first 3 digits of your first name below and the last 4 digits of your telephone number. They are alphabetized on the shelf by last name.
For now, please pick up your own holds, then bring them to the circulation desk for checkout.
You will also be able to check out all your materials at self-check stations! These will be arriving at the end of September, and will be live at the beginning of October. Circulation desk staff will still be available for assistance and to answer questions, but you will be able to check out your own materials.
Thank you to the Summit County Library Foundation for funding the purchase of these machines.
In preparation for self-check, we are asking all patrons to bring their card or card number with them when they come to the library. (This includes curbside pickup.) Once the self-check stations are live, you will need it to check-out your materials, so now’s the time to get into the habit.
To celebrate September being National Library Card Sign-Up Month, we are offering card replacements for free all month long. So please bring in your card with you, or, if you’ve misplaced your card, save yourself $2.50 and get a brand new one.
Another option, if you do not like to carry cards in your wallet, is the free Stocard Mobile Wallet app. This app will save your frequently used cards in one easy to access place on your phone. Watch a how-to video on how to use the Stocard app here.
Please note: Library staff will no longer be calling individuals to remind them when their holds are about to expire and be sent back to their home library.
If you are concerned about keeping track of your holds and when they arrive, we recommend signing up for Shoutbomb, a free text message service offered through Summit County Library. Shoutbomb sends you several reminders when holds arrive at the library for you, when items are due back and gives you an easy way to renew items.
