Sheila's Storytime Corner: Rhyming
On Tuesday, February 4, we heard books with lots of rhyming text during preschool Story Time at the North Branch in Silverthorne.
Rhyming is one part of phonemic awareness . . . of working with language, sounds within language, and playing with language. A multitude of research has shown a correlation between rhyming mastery and eventual reading preparedness. Exposure to rhyming can enhance both oral language skills and eventually written language skills.Best of all, many books with rhyming text are fun!
We listened to:
Have Your Seen My New Blue Socks by
Rhyming Dust Bunnies by
I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! by Karen Beaumont
Other suggestions for rhyming books include: Frog on a Log,and Dog on a Frog, by Kes Gray, Llama, Llama Red Pajama stories by Anna Dewdney, the Sheep stories by Nancy Shaw and, of course, many books by Dr. Seuss.
