Celebrate National Library Week with us!
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week (April 8-14) is a chance for us to celebrate and support the value libraries bring to communities.
A little history…
When National Library Week began 60 years ago, research showed that Americans were spending more money on radios, televisions, and musical instruments than books. Thus, National Library Week was founded on the belief that as people read more, they would support and use libraries more.
Though the methods, technology, and role of libraries have changed in the past 60 years, our universal goals of building lifelong readers, creating inclusive learning environments, protecting intellectual freedom and privacy, serving a diverse public, and connecting community through engaging programs remain steadfast.
Fun events at Summit County Library
To celebrate National Library Week this year, Summit County Library has planned many fun activities throughout the week to say a big THANK YOU for supporting your local library! When you participate, you’ll also have the opportunity to win some great prizes.
Social Media Trivia
Each day, we’ll post a trivia question about Summit County on Facebook and Instagram. If you know the answer, come to the front desk of any of our three libraries for a treat!
Library Scavenger Hunt
Learn more about your library and test your hunting skills by picking up a Scavenger Hunt sheet at any of our three locations. When you complete the hunt, bring your sheet back to the front desk to be entered into a prize drawing!
Library Word Search
Pick up a word search at the front desk of any of our three locations and enjoy some Summit County Library-themed fun.
The South and North Branch staff are throwing it back to high school with a library-themed Spirit Week! Each day, staff members will be dressing up—if you join us, you’ll get an extra entry into our Scavenger Hunt prize drawing.
Enjoy delicious treats throughout the week at all three branches! Main Library will have cake on Tuesday and Wednesday, North Branch will have cookies, South Branch will be hosting a Cookie & Coffee Hour Monday through Friday from 3-4 p.m.
Food for Fines
Have overdue charges on your library account? Pay off your fines for late items (not lost or damaged items) by donating canned food or other goods! We will be accepting canned goods through April 21. Find out what we can accept here.
