Friends of the Library Awards $1,500
High School Scholarship
This month Friends of the Summit County Library awarded its annual $1,500 scholarship to North Branch Library volunteer and Summit High School Senior, Madeline Krystopa. Madeline volunteered at the North Branch Library during the summer between her freshman and sophomore year. For most of the next 2 years, Madeline came to the library faithfully to help prepare crafts for preschool story time. However, as she became more comfortable at the library, Madeline also helped with bulletin boards and summer reading activities. Madeline was even willing to come help with special events such as Family Pajama Story Time or the holiday book reading at Red Buffalo Coffee House.
Madeline is dependable, responsible and able to problem solve, not to mention friendly and polite. Library staff enjoyed that she liked to bring her brother or friends with her to help complete her volunteer tasks more efficiently. They have missed Madeline and “her crew” while the library has been closed to volunteers due to the pandemic, but have no doubt that she will be an excellent college student!
The Friends of the Library awards this scholarship to one or two college-bound high school seniors each spring with the stipulation that the teen volunteer at one of the 3 Summit County Libraries. The application is a general scholarship application through Summit County High School and includes a unique essay requirement.
