2018 Summit County Library Volunteer Appreciation Awards

Each year, library staff and the Summit County Library Board acknowledge the hard work of the library volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to making the Summit County libraries a welcoming and enriching environment for both residents and visitors.

For 2018 the Volunteer of the Year and the Van Woodford awards went to two deserving recipients; Andrew Armour and Kristina Nethaway. Plaques with their names hang in the Main Library in Frisco.

The Volunteer of the Year Award -

Andrew Armour

Andrew has been a dedicated volunteer for a number of years at the South Branch Library. Andrew never forgets to call to check in weekly with staff to see if we need help, which we often do. He is always friendly with patrons, visitors and staff and most importantly: willing to dive in whenever we need assistance. We appreciate his can-do attitude and the commitment he shows to Summit County Library. He will efficiently help with any and all tasks, from shelving to setting up chairs for programs or cutting out crafts for our story times, and he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. He always has a positive attitude and a smile on his face, so he is the South Branch go-to when we are looking for a reliable volunteer.

The Van Woodford Service Award -

Kristina Nethaway

Van Woodford was the North Branch Library Manager for over thirty-five years. She brought performance and passion to her job and was a beloved figure in library land. Kristina Nethaway embodies her commitment and dedication, and we are proud to name her as the recipient of the 2018 Van Woodford Service award. After retiring from her successful Breckenridge jewelry business in 2011, Kristina brought her energy and organizational skills to Summit County Library. She bought and installed bookshelves from Borders Bookstore to help extend the life of the old South Branch Library. She was instrumental in the move from old library to new, helping to pack and place over a thousand boxes of books. She sorted and sold books at our thrice yearly book sales. She served on the Friends of the Library, the Library Foundation and the Library Board of Trustees. She has done everything we asked and more, and will be sorely missed when she leaves us for warmer climes.
