Join us for a fun evening of crafting – you’ll leave with your own tiny succulent planter made out of an old book. We will provide the supplies for this fun adults-only program. Just call the library at 970-453-3544 to reserve yourself a spot; but don’t wait, we only have 10 spots for this craft party!
If you have fines on your account from late fees, now is your chance to start with a clean slate! All donations benefit the FIRC. This is only valid for fines from late fees, not for lost items.
Three times a year, the Friends of the Library host an enormous used book sale in the Buffalo Mountain and Mt. Royal Rooms at the County Commons building in Frisco. There are great deals on all kinds of items! On Friday prices are: Hardcover books - $3.00, Paperback books - $2.00, CD books - $3.00 DVDs - $2.00, Children's and Teens' books - $1.00. On Saturday everything is half price, and from 3:00 to 5:00 a bag of items is $3.00, and 2 bags for $5.00.

We will be using the 2013 version to introduce the fundamentals such as creating new spreadsheets, entering and editing data and using simple formulas. Middle and high school students were invited to pick up their goodie bag for the Missing Ending Book Club starting November 9th! If they read the book to the stapled shut pages (the missing ending), they can attend the meeting on December 7 at 4pm to guess how the book ends. The best guest will win a prize! In honor of Harry Potter’s birthday month of July the North Branch Library in Silverthorne will be showing the first movie of the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 3:00 PM. The Library Board meets at 5 pm in the Buffalo Mountain Room located in the County Commons Building in Frisco to discuss the policies and management of the library. The Buffalo Mountain Room is on the located on the same floor as the Main Library.

The Friends of the Summit County Library invite residents and visitors to this year’s Travel Slide Show Series. This week, our travel slideshow will take us to Iran with Bob Hinderholtz. He will show us a look at ancient ruins and culture, archaeological sites of Persepolis and Zoroastrian cities, as well as spectacular gardens and Mosques, learn of their poetry etc. Mr. Hinderholtz will also share about a visit to a local home for dinner and saw the big difference in public and private life. There is also a visit to Qom one of the most conservative cities you can find along with Tehran and Shiraz. The Friends of the Summit County Library invite residents and visitors to this year’s Travel Slide Show Series. This week, join Matt Shetzer, a local professional photographer who travels the world hosting photography workshops, on a journey through regions in Ecuador and Costa Rica in search of some of the most beautiful hummingbirds in the world. Ecuador, with over 120 species of hummingbirds, and Costa Rica, with 50 species, offer unique hummingbirds such as the Sword-billed hummingbird, whose bill is longer than its body, and the Violet-tailed sylph, whose long tail makes it one of the most beautiful hummingbirds in the world. In this photographic adventure through Central and South American birding lodges, we will discuss these amazing creatures and some of the characteristic that make these birds such a delight to watch. As always, the show begins at 7:00 pm in the Blue River Room at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne.

Isenhart will discuss her book on forgiveness, Forgiving Others, Forgiving Ourselves: Understanding & Healing Our Emotional Wounds, the official book selection of 2016 Colorado Conflict Resolution Month. This week, our travel slideshow is excited to welcome Maryann Gaug to talk about hiking all around the great state of Colorado! She says, "In 1999, I started hiking trails around Colorado to write Hiking Colorado for Beachway Press. My hiking guide was to be a walking tour of Colorado. Falcon Guides bought Beachway and I ended up writing 5 titles (hiking guides) for them with 2 editions of one of the guides. I’ll show photos of various hikes, some not well known, and talk about some of my adventures along the way." Maryann will be selling and signing copies of her book, "Hiking Colorado" at her presentation. Parents and students (grades 3-8) will learn together by creating a family recipe book. Bring your family recipes AND Chromebook (or borrow one from the library). Dinner and babysitting provided. Class will be taught in English and Spanish. No tech skills needed!

This week's travel slideshow takes us to Guatemala with Suzanne Reed and Jan Leuthauser. The two have recently returned from a Habitat International trip to Guatemala where we worked on a Habitat home for a family and visited and toured the Antigua region of Guatemala. They will talk about the Habitat program as a wonderful volunteer opportunity and also about what they learned about Guatemala. For our final Travel Slideshow for the season, Chris and Ricky Daly will take you into their excursion into Camp Leakey and their time with several families of Orangutans in their natural habitat. As they share their portraits of these beautiful primates, they’ll discuss their meeting and the work of Dr. Birute Galdikas who for over forty years dedicated herself to the Orangutans ensuring they continue to thrive in this remote province of Indonesia. Galdikas is one of Louis Leakey’s “golden angels”; the others being Dianne Fossey (Silver Back Gorillas) and Jane Goodall (Chimpanzees). As always, the show begins at 7:00 pm in the Blue River Room at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne.

Join HC3’s Program Coordinator as she details the basics of seed saving. Seed saving is an ancient tradition that creates plants that are better suited for a particular climate or geographical area. This workshop will cover basic methods for saving seed here in the high country: which plants are easiest to save seed on, how to save the seed, and how to clean seed for use.

Jane Parnell, the first woman to climb the 100 highest peaks of the state, will discuss and sign her mountaineering memoir Off Trail: Finding My Way Home in the Colorado Rockies. Parnell's memoir spans half a century. Her personal journey dramatizes evolving gender roles from the 1950s to the present and her quest to overcome a family history of mental illness and past trauma. In the tradition of Cheryl Strayed's Wild and Tracy Ross's The Source of All Things, Parnell's mountaineering memoir shows us how, by pushing ourselves to the limits of our physical endurance and by confronting our deepest fears, we can become whole again.

Join us for an evening with Colonel Tom Duhs USMC (retired) to hear the incredible story of the 10th Mountain Division. “Skiing off to War” is the story of the men who trained at Camp Hale Colorado and were deployed to Italy. They pushed the German Army out and helped bring about the end of the war in May 1945. You'll learn more about the unique nature of the division's recruitment, training, employment, and work after WWII.
