The Friends of the Library meet the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm in the Buffalo Mountain Room at the County Commons building in Frisco. We discuss fundraising events, programs and various opportunities to support our library. Contact the Friends president, Mark, or North Branch Library manager, Janet, for more information. Everyone is welcome!

The Friends is a nonprofit all-volunteer group originally organized in Summit County in 1960 and incorporated in 1977. The status of 501(c)3 was obtained in October 1978.

Mission Statement

  • To increase public awareness, use, and support of libraries.
  • To provide financial assistance by purchasing special items in support of library programs.
  • To sponsor programs designed to add to the cultural life of Summit County.

The Friends sponsor programs throughout the year, including special children's events and a travel slideshow series in the Blue River Room of the North Branch Library.

Three times a year, the Friends of the Library host an enormous used book sale in the Buffalo Mountain and Mt. Royal Rooms at the County Commons building in Frisco.


The Friends also fund the Teen Summer Reading Program and the Fall Adult Reading Program at all three library locations.

  • Red Buffalo Coffee at the Silverthorne Town Center

Annual Book Sale Events

The Friends of the Library holds three book sale events each year in the Buffalo Mountain Room of the County Commons in Frisco. The book sales take place in April, August, and December. The December sale includes a fabulous bake sale. Check the website calendar for dates and times.

All book sales raise funds to support the many programs and projects the Friends of the Library sponsors on behalf of the community and the Summit County Library.

Donations are accepted all year round at any Summit County Library. Please do not bring old textbooks, old reference books, or Reader's Digest Condensed Books. After removing the covers, these may be recycled with paper.

Annual Book Club Tea

Please save Wednesday afternoon, February 22nd to attend the Book Club Tea at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne. This event is open to members of any book clubs, and also to anyone who is looking to join a book club. The theme this year will be Downton Abbey so dust off your hats and check your white gloves for tea stains. Please bring a finger food to share. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Travel Slideshow: Guatemala - A Habitat Build Project & Climbing Acatenango Volcano

This week's travel slideshow takes us to Guatemala with Suzanne Reed and Jan Leuthauser. The two have recently returned from a Habitat International trip to Guatemala where we worked on a Habitat home for a family and visited and toured the Antigua region of Guatemala. They will talk about the Habitat program as a wonderful volunteer opportunity and also about what they learned about Guatemala. As always, the show begins at 7:00 pm in the Blue River Room at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne.

Travel Slideshow: The Orangutans of Borneo

Location: North Branch Library, 651 Center Circle, Silverthorne, CO

For our final Travel Slideshow for the season, Chris and Ricky Daly will take you into their excursion into Camp Leakey and their time with several families of Orangutans in their natural habitat. As they share their portraits of these beautiful primates, they’ll discuss their meeting and the work of Dr. Birute Galdikas who for over forty years dedicated herself to the Orangutans ensuring they continue to thrive in this remote province of Indonesia. Galdikas is one of Louis Leakey’s “golden angels”; the others being Dianne Fossey (Silver Back Gorillas) and Jane Goodall (Chimpanzees). As always, the show begins at 7:00 pm in the Blue River Room at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne.

The Friends of the Summit County Library invite residents and visitors to this year’s Travel Slide Show Series. As always, the presenters will showcase their photography and share their own travel stories to five great places on earth.
