Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library meet the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm in the Buffalo Mountain Room at the County Commons building in Frisco. We discuss fundraising events, programs and various opportunities to support our library. Contact the Friends president, Mark, or North Branch Library manager, Janet, for more information. Everyone is welcome!

The Friends is a nonprofit all-volunteer group originally organized in Summit County in 1960 and incorporated in 1977. The status of 501(c)3 was obtained in October 1978.

Mission Statement

  • To increase public awareness, use, and support of libraries.
  • To provide financial assistance by purchasing special items in support of library programs.
  • To sponsor programs designed to add to the cultural life of Summit County.

The Friends sponsor programs throughout the year, including special children's events and a travel slideshow series in the Blue River Room of the North Branch Library.

Three times a year, the Friends of the Library host an enormous used book sale in the Buffalo Mountain and Mt. Royal Rooms at the County Commons building in Frisco.


The Friends also fund the Teen Summer Reading Program and the Fall Adult Reading Program at all three library locations.

The following locations have reduced book sales:

  • Second Tracks, Wilderness Sports Consignment in the Summit Place Shopping Center
  • Red Buffalo Coffee at the Silverthorne Town Center

Annual Book Sale Events

The Friends of the Library holds three book sale events each year in the Buffalo Mountain Room of the County Commons in Frisco. The book sales take place in April, August, and December. The December sale includes a fabulous bake sale. Check the website calendar for dates and times.

All book sales raise funds to support the many programs and projects the Friends of the Library sponsors on behalf of the community and the Summit County Library.

Donations are accepted all year round at any Summit County Library. Please do not bring old textbooks, old reference books, or Reader's Digest Condensed Books. After removing the covers, these may be recycled with paper.

Travel Slideshow: Hiking Colorado: A Journey

Location: North Branch Library, 651 Center Circle, Silverthorne, CO

This week, our travel slideshow is excited to welcome Maryann Gaug to talk about hiking all around the great state of Colorado! She says, "In 1999, I started hiking trails around Colorado to write Hiking Colorado for Beachway Press. My hiking guide was to be a walking tour of Colorado. Falcon Guides bought Beachway and I ended up writing 5 titles (hiking guides) for them with 2 editions of one of the guides. I’ll show photos of various hikes, some not well known, and talk about some of my adventures along the way." As always, the show begins at 7:00 pm in the Blue River Room at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne.

Travel Slideshow: Iran - An Ancient and Modern Look

The Friends of the Summit County Library invite residents and visitors to this year’s Travel Slide Show Series. This week, our travel slideshow will take us to Iran with Bob Hinderholtz. He will show us a look at ancient ruins and culture, archaeological sites of Persepolis and Zoroastrian cities, as well as spectacular gardens and Mosques, learn of their poetry etc. Mr. Hinderholtz will also share about a visit to a local home for dinner and saw the big difference in public and private life. There is also a visit to Qom one of the most conservative cities you can find along with Tehran and Shiraz. As always, the show begins at 7:00 pm in the Blue River Room at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne.

Travel Slideshow: Hummingbirds of Costa Rica and Ecuador

Location: North Branch Library, 651 Center Circle, Silverthorne, CO

The Friends of the Summit County Library invite residents and visitors to this year’s Travel Slide Show Series. This week, join Matt Shetzer, a local professional photographer who travels the world hosting photography workshops, on a journey through regions in Ecuador and Costa Rica in search of some of the most beautiful hummingbirds in the world. Ecuador, with over 120 species of hummingbirds, and Costa Rica, with 50 species, offer unique hummingbirds such as the Sword-billed hummingbird, whose bill is longer than its body, and the Violet-tailed sylph, whose long tail makes it one of the most beautiful hummingbirds in the world. In this photographic adventure through Central and South American birding lodges, we will discuss these amazing creatures and some of the characteristic that make these birds such a delight to watch. As always, the show begins at 7:00 pm in the Blue River Room at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne.

Book Club Tea

Please save Wednesday afternoon, February 22nd to attend the Book Club Tea at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne. This event is open to members of any book clubs, and also to anyone who is looking to join a book club. The theme this year will be Downton Abbey so dust off your hats and check your white gloves for tea stains.
