2024 Travel Series: A South African Trek to Meet a Legendary Herd of Elephants

Imagine reading the books of Thula Thula [The Elephant Whisperer, An Elephant in My Kitchen, and The Elephants of Thula Thula] that inspired a trip to meet the legendary elephant herd in person. Join the Nordens, a local Summit County family, as they share their three-week travels from the Western Cape to the Kwazulu-Natal region of South Africa in November 2023. En route to meet the elephant herd and rhinos from the books, their travels took them hiking on Table Mountain, one of the seven wonders of the world and a UNESCO world heritage site, volunteering to build a mongoose habitat, stopping at the beautiful beaches along the coast, to all the wildlife, and biking through the town of Soweto where the anti-apartheid movement began.
We will meet in the Pine Room in the Main Library in Frisco at 6pm.
