 Summer Celebrations

The theme of 2024 is "Adventure Begins at your Library", and library staff are excited for the Summit County community to visit the libraries and have some fun. We invite all families to join us for these three Saturdays to learn about our Summer Reading challenges, enjoy some special events and get help using Beanstack.

Birth to Pre-K Summer Reading Challenge:

Even our youngest library users are encouraged to participate in Summer Reading... reading to a child or listening to an audiobook counts! For every 10 books read, they will earn a virtual badge on Beanstack and be notified to come in and pick out a prize book.

Complete 8 badges by August 10 to earn a coupon for a sweet treat and a certificate of completion.

Children's Summer Program Schedule:
No registration required. 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten 

If you are already registered and particiapting in our year-round 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program, your 80 summer reads will count towards completion. For each 100 books you read to your child, they will receive a free book and button. Collect all 10 buttons in order to 'graduate' from 1000 Books before Kindergarten.

Junior Summer Reading Challenge

Grades K - 5

Juniors are invited to participate in our Summer Reading Program by tracking the books they read or are read to! Log each book on our reading challenge software Beanstack to earn badges & win prizes. 

Each book read earns one free book and a virtual ticket to enter into the grand prize drawing. The drawing will take place August 12. To complete the summer reading challenge, unlock eight virtual badges on Beanstack, a total of 8 books read. You will earn a gift card for a sweet treat and a certificate of completion. Happy reading!

Are you a super reader? Do you want more chances to win the grand prize? Just keep reading and logging books. The more badges you unlock, the more chances you get to win prizes.

Junior K - 5 Summer Program Schedule

Mondays 
Beginner Computer Coding  for ages 8-10 | Weekly, July 8 - 29 | 12-1pm @ South Branch, Breckenridge
Learn basic animation skills this summer using Scratch programming with instructor Kathy Childs. Registration required.

Tuesdays
Rocky Mountain Readers - Fantastic Mr. Fox | June 25 | 6pm @ Eclipse Theatre, Breckenridge
Rocky Mountain Readers - Holes | July 30 | 6pm @ Eclipse Theatre, Breckenridge
Partnership with the Eclipse Theater! With a checkout of each book, readers will receive one ticket for a complimentary movie at the Eclipse Theater. Each child needs adult supervision to attend. Books are available at the South Branch Library.

Wednesdays 
Jr. Explorer Programs | Weekly starting June 12 | 3:30-4:30pm @ Main Library, South Branch and North Branch 
Activities will be a mix of STEAM, art, craft and science activities. Registration is required on Sign Up Genius one week in advance.

Teen Summer Reading Challenge

Grades 6th -12th

This year's Teen Summer Reading Challenge gives them more options than ever before! Read books, write reviews or complete activities to win prizes. Each badge earns a free book. Complete a combination of 8 Beanstack badges to complete the challenge and receive a gift card for a local coffee shop. 

Teens will collect virtual tickets for each Beanstack badge they unlock that can be entered into grand prize drawings to be conducted in August. These include tons of fun activities; Bistro North gift cards, Theatre Silco camperships, Elevation Bowling gift cards, Breck Create and Art Spot punch passes and much more!

Tween and Teen Summer Adventure Book Clubs | 2pmThe Den (teen room) at North Branch Library
Adventure through these high stakes, thrilling reads with your peers this summer! Books can be requested or copies will be available for checkout at the North Branch Library. You can read hardcover, paperback, or electronic copies, listen to the audiobooks, or just come hang out for activities and discussion! Books were chosen by the Youth Advisory Council. Email christina.chambers@summitcountyco.gov to RSVP.

6-8th grade

Adult Summer Reading

Summer Reading is not just for kids! Read books, write reviews or complete activities.  Complete 8 badges on Beanstack to earn either a $5.00 Friends of the Library book buck or a $5.00 gift card to High Rhodes Records in Frisco.

You may stumble upon surprise easter egg badges this summer that can be redeemed for library swag. Adults will collect virtual tickets for each Beanstack badge they unlock that can be entered into a grand prize drawing conducted on August 12. Prizes include; a massage gift certificate, Blue River Bistor/Bistro North gift cards, theatre tickets, rounds of golf at Breckenridge Golf Course, Breck eRide memberships, a pontoon rental, nordic center passes, and much more!
